Week of October 21

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great Fall Break and is ready for some fun events in the next few weeks.

In math we are starting a unit on geometry that will focus on angles.

We are so happy that our principal, Mr. Coordt, bought us a class subscription to the magazine, Time for Kids. Now we can read up on current events and write persuasive essays.

In Language Arts we are reading about the space scientist, Dr. Mae Jamison, and studying planets and the solar system in science.

We are looking forward to a field trip to the Balboa theatre for the Carnival of the Animals on November 14. Let me know if you would like to be a parent chaperone for this event.

In class, we are working on narrative writing in Language Arts.

Math will be focused on problem solving strategies and word problems.

We will wrap up our Science unit on matter and physical/chemical changes.

PE is on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday so please wear appropriate shoes!  Our goal is for the boys to be able to run an 11 minute mile and our girls to run a 12 minute mile. Several students have already accomplished this goal!  Good job!

Week of September 9

This week we are decorating our writing composition books. Please have students bring pictures, magazines, or decorative papers they would like to use for their book covers. (The covers will be sprayed with clear adhesive, so please don't bring original family photos that are irreplaceable, just copies!) Here are a few samples:

This week we are reading about volcanoes in Language Arts.

We are working on prime factorization in Math.

We are starting a new unit on matter in Science.
